Boost for parents of babies in neonatal care

Bliss charity successfully campaigned for entitlement to leave and pay for babies born premature or sick.

Sharing some news which will make a huge difference to parents whose babies need neonatal care. They will now receive 12 weeks’ leave and pay when their babies are born premature or sick and needing neonatal care.

Congratulations to Bliss charity for their successful campaign!

Around 60,000 parents annually will benefit from up to 12 weeks’ leave and pay

Bliss wrote on their social media when the bill was passed on May 25: “We are thrilled that the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Bill reached royal assent today! Around 60,000 parents annually will benefit from up to 12 weeks’ leave and pay when their babies are born needing neonatal care.

“This is fantastic news for babies born premature or sick who need their parents by their side in hospital, and Bliss is proud to have been at the forefront of campaigning for this significant new law.

“Our campaigning means that when the entitlement comes into force BOTH parents will receive the same amount of leave and pay and parents will qualify based on their baby being in hospital, meaning it will cover families of both premature babies and those born full-term but sick.”
