RCOG report reveals postcode lottery in maternity care

The latest Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) report highlights variation in maternity care across England.

In response, Elizabeth Duff, Senior Policy Adviser, NCT, said: “Pregnant women should not have to endure a postcode lottery and it is unacceptable these variations in maternity care are reported year after year. We urge NHS Trusts to use this data to examine their practices and ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies.”

Higher rates of intervention in different areas show women are not getting similar quality services.

Personalised continuity of care from a known midwife or doctor should be provided to help women decide whether they require intervention or not.
