City Bridge Trust lift for Newham Nurture

We are really excited that the City Bridge Trust will be supporting our Newham Nurture programme. Read more about the work they do and how the grant will help.

Supporting marginalised families

Newham Nurture supports migrant marginalised families in the London Borough of Newham who have refugee status, are seeking asylum or have no recourse to public funds, throughout the major life transition of pregnancy and early parenthood.

Many of the families that we work with are experiencing homelessness, financial hardship and multiple disadvantages. The programme aims to provide a critical intervention to help vulnerable families to have the best possible home life during this life transition.

Building on the powerful foundations developed with funding from Newham Council, this grant will amplify the voices of women from refugee, migrant and asylum-seeking communities, providing opportunities to co-produce local service delivery practice, contribute to national policy conversations, as well as participate in research initiatives.

We’re delighted to be working with City Bridge Trust as a new donor to NCT whose focus of reducing inequality and fostering more resilient and thriving communities aligns so closely with our mission and values.

Adeola’s story

Adeola is a single mother to a one-year-old baby. She has no recourse to public funds and is temporarily living in a friend’s apartment while they are away. When she came to Newham Nurture, Adeola was destitute and struggling to find food. She was feeling low and spent most of her days inside with her baby.

“I wouldn’t have been able to continue by myself without the support of Newham Nurture, as staff have always encouraged me to do well for my baby.” Adeola

At first, Adeola struggled to engage with the sessions, however within a couple of months, with encouragement from the peer supporters and staff she began to interact more with others in the sessions. Newham Nurture supported Adeola with practical needs such as fresh fruit and vegetables, nappies and clothing for her baby, as well as finding immigration advice.

We are continuing to explore opportunities to support, drive and expand Newham Nurture to help even more marginalised communities across the UK.
